The Clerk of Superior Court is an elected official charged with the filing and safekeeping of land and property records as well as the civil and criminal files of the court. The probate judge, tax commissioner and sheriff are the other three. The duties of the clerk are statutory, varied and numerous. They are ministerial in nature and can be found in literally hundreds of statutes created by the legislature. In addition to the Official Code of Georgia the clerk is also obligated to follow the rules of the court for which he or she serves.
If possible, we prefer to address your needs and handle your case remotely. The Court is handling all inmate cases arraignments, pleas, probation revocations by video on Tuesdays at AM. These may be observed in the courtroom at the J. Taylor Phillips Courthouse.
There is no cost to e-file in criminal cases. No one will be selected to serve on more than one jury. Pleadings may be filed through PeachCourt.
Facial coverings are optional for people who are vaccinated. We will bring in smaller groups of potential jurors and will generally limit the duration of service for those who are selected.

Civil hearings may be held by teleconference or video conference. Leaving a voice mail does not relieve a party of the requirement to appear on the scheduled Court date.
If you do so, you will not have to come to the Courthouse. Even in older cases in which e-filing may not be mandatory, lawyers and parties are encouraged to file pleadings electronically rather than in person.
Anyone who is in a high-risk category including over the age of 65, without a vaccine or has a COVID related basis to be excused from Court should contact the chambers of Judge Sharell Lewisat least seventy-two 72 hours before the scheduled Court date. If by video conference, the Judge will be in the courtroom or will present the hearing in the courtroom, and the hearing may be observed in the courtroom.
